Curious Minds, Meet the Answers

  • The book is designed for ages 8–11 (grades 3–5), with a full-color hardcover format that works equally well for independent reading, family read-aloud, and classroom use.

  • Book 1: Meet the Engineers introduces young readers to 10 engineering disciplines: aerospace, mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical, systems, robotics, computer, industrial, and software engineering. Each is brought to life through diverse and relatable characters.

Book 2 (releasing Fall 2026) will expand the series with 15 additional engineering disciplines, broadening the universe of fields kids can explore and see themselves in. Together, the two books will introduce young readers to 25 distinct paths into engineering.

  • Yes. Meet the Engineers and the companion Engineering Discovery Workbook are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), particularly the Engineering, Technology, and Applications of Science (ETS) strand. Activities and concepts support:

    • 3-5-ETS1-1 — Defining a simple design problem reflecting a need or want, including specified criteria for success and constraints.

    • 3-5-ETS1-2 — Generating and comparing multiple possible solutions to a problem.

The materials also reinforce Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) such as asking questions, defining problems, designing solutions, and constructing explanations — making them a natural fit for elementary STEM curricula, afterschool programs, and homeschool environments.

  • The workbook is designed as a companion to Meet the Engineers and works best when paired with it. The activities reference the disciplines and concepts introduced in the book, so kids get the most out of the workbook when they've read (or are reading) the main story.

The Engineering Discovery Workbook is intentionally produced as a saddle-stitch booklet so it lays flat for young engineers to write, sketch, and design directly on the page. The format reinforces hands-on engagement — students can fold, mark up, and physically interact with each activity, which strengthens retention and supports the design-thinking process the book teaches.
